Pregnancy

The exciting prospect of building a family... The instinctive, innate, and unrivalled love a mother feels for her unborn child... The start of a new adventure with no limits… The unknowing of what life is going to bring for the mother and her new-born… Make no mistake, the very premise that all pregnancies are unique and special to the individual takes nothing away from the fact pregnancy, can be hard. And when things get hard, what’s one of the best remedies? Wine!

According to the Association of Medical Sciences, the most common social problems faced by pregnant women are things like economic difficulty & lack of support from friends and family. And think about it, why do people drink? With regard to those issues, of course it’s a temporary fix, a novelty enjoyed that soothes pain. But diving deeper into the issues pregnant women may face, why might they face the opportunity to drink?

“Congratulations! Let’s pour a glass of rose to celebrate!”
“To the happy couple! We should have a glass of white and plan the baby shower!”
“Why not come to ours for dinner, we’ll put on a spread and I’ve bought a lovely bottle of red for us all!”

Of course, any sensible pregnant women knows not to, and won’t, enjoy the fruits of alcohol consumption, but might feel a sense of social isolation considering everyone around her has the means to celebrate as usual. And on top of this, it isn’t just drinking that’s advised to cut out. With regards to diet, blue cheese, pate, cured meats are all ill-advised.

Iron intake… a reduction in exercise… a change in sleeping position… It really becomes quite daunting considering the small but significant sacrifices women are expected to uphold.

Our mission at guiltless wines is that we can branch out to all people reducing their alcohol intake, either completely or marginally, so that the average person is included and enjoys the unique joy that is the simple pleasure of having a drink.
